Theory & AnalysisUnderstanding our society and how to change it Whether we are students, workers, teachers, or any combination of these categories, we all have a role to play in society. Whenever we take action to defend our rights, we learn anew that cooperation is essential for success. Our unions are the organized expression of that role which we share in common. But even individual student unions or labour unions are subject to the pressures of society at large: the question of how society should be run is one which concerns us directly, and yet we have little control over this aspect of our lives. Budget cuts on one hand, coupled with corporate tax breaks on the other, are enacted by our governments at our expense - to the benefit of society's wealthy. How can we overcome this? Where do we begin? What kind of organization and tactics will be effective? The "Theory and Analysis" section deals with these questions by looking at events and trends we all have experienced, and drawing conclusions from them. The goal is to use these conclusions toward a better understanding of the society we live in, and how to change it for the better. |
