Support staff and Concordia University reach deal [part-time faculty still without contract]Monday, February 11, 2008 | 4:22 PM ET Concordia University has reached a tentative settlement with support staff workers who have worked without a contract for more than five years. The union representing Concordia's 450 support workers said on Tuesday they've reached an agreement in principle with administrators after years of negotiation. "We believe the agreement in principle will meet all the needs and expectations of our members," said André Legault, president of the union representing support workers. "The negotiation committee is very satisfied with it, and ready to recommend it to the membership for ratification." Negotiations between the university and support staff failed to produce any contract until now because of disagreement over salary and job security issues. Union members will vote on the new deal Friday. Concordia support staff include secretaries, technicians and librarians. They're affiliated with the Confédération des syndicats nationaux. Part-time teaching faculty at Concordia are still working without a contract. [for more information, visit the Concordia University Part Time Faculty Association website at http://www.cupfa.org/] |
